The short answer: The Vital Women Harmony Duo pairs two Peruvian ingredients from opposite ends of the country: aguaje, the fruit of an Amazon palm, and maca, a root grown above 4,000 meters in the Andes. You get Aguaje Capsules (1,000 mg per 2 capsules) and USDA Organic Maca Root Capsules (1,600 mg raw tricolor maca per 2 capsules), each 120 count, for $29.95 instead of $49.90 bought separately.

A closer look at our organic maca root capsules next to whole maca roots (no sound).

What is aguaje?

Aguaje (Mauritia flexuosa), also called buriti or moriche, is the fruit of a tall palm that grows in the flooded forests of the Amazon. The fruit is oval, about 5 to 7 cm long, with a dark red-brown scaly peel and yellow-to-orange pulp. In Iquitos it is sold in markets and street stalls, eaten fresh or blended into a chilled drink called aguajina. Learn more in aguaje fruit explained.

What is maca?

Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a root vegetable in the broccoli and radish family, grown on the high plateaus of central Peru. Roots come in yellow, red and black. Our maca capsules hold a raw blend of all three colors, never gelatinized, with nothing to mix or taste.

  • Yogurt bowl: ¾ cup yogurt, 1 tsp honey, contents of 2 maca capsules, granola and berries.
  • Aguajina-style cooler: 1 cup cold water, juice of ½ lime, 1 tsp cane sugar, contents of 2 aguaje capsules; stir well and serve over ice.
